Late Rush drummer Neil Peart’s widow, Carrie Nuttall-Peart, has spoken about Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson’s upcoming Rush reunion tour with new drummer Anika Nilles. The New York Times reported her comments.

Nuttall-Peart explained why she believes her late husband would have supported the band’s decision to continue touring without him. She also shared insights about his personality and relationship with fame.

“Neil was the one that was ready to retire, anyhow, and they really were not,” Nuttall-Peart said.

She also reflected on how her late husband struggled with the public aspects of being in one of rock’s most celebrated bands.

“‘Limelight,’ Olivia (Neil Peart’s daughter) and I have always said, is Daddy’s theme song,” she continued. “Because he really did not enjoy being in the public eye and he was quite an introvert and it was hard on him touring.”

Despite acknowledging that Neil might have questioned the decision, Nuttall-Peart suggested he would have ultimately been supportive of his bandmates.

“Neil would have said, ‘Why?’ Or, ‘You guys are just nuts.’ But in a loving way,” she said.

The widow’s support for the reunion extends beyond her public statements. She will contribute an essay to the official tour program, further cementing her endorsement of the band’s decision to continue.

Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Geddy Lee revealed Rush will honor Peart at every show on the Fifty Something tour by selecting songs that evoke his style. The performances will be paired with visual tributes to his lyrics and playing. This approach demonstrates the band’s commitment to preserving Peart’s legacy while moving forward with their musical journey.

The tour holds special significance as it launches June 7 at the Forum in Los Angeles. Ultimate Classic Rock noted this is the same venue as Rush’s final show with Peart over a decade ago. This symbolic choice of venue creates a meaningful connection between the band’s past and their new chapter with Anika Nilles.

The reunion tour represents a significant moment for Rush fans who have waited years for the band’s return. Far Out Magazine confirmed that Rush announced their return in October 2025 for the 2026 reunion tour with Nilles stepping into the role previously filled by the legendary Peart.

The band’s decision to continue touring with a new drummer marks a new era for Rush. It balances respect for their late bandmate’s memory with their desire to continue performing for their devoted fanbase. Nuttall-Peart’s public support provides an important blessing for this transition. It helps fans understand that the reunion aligns with what Peart himself might have wanted for his longtime collaborators.
