Former Journey frontman Steve Perry discussed his relationship with his former bandmates in a recent interview with Los Angeles Times.

Journey guitarist Neal Schon intensified the speculation, as we reported. Schon shared a photo of Perry and mentioned ‘Journey Beyond,’ sparking fan theories about a possible collaboration.

Today, the interview addressed his relationship with Journey after their Rock Hall induction in 2017. Perry offered a positive perspective on the band’s recent personnel challenges.

“I mean, we’re all good. We were great together,” Perry said. “I think the material and our accomplishments stand the test of time, which proves that we were good together. I’m really proud of what we accomplished together, because we were kind of like soldiers in the trenches trying to do something together.”

Perry then shared insights about his current musical endeavors.

“But I really love new music, and when I’m writing here in the studio, I try to remove myself so I can continually chase after these new ideas, and not be influenced by anything except these new ideas wherever they show up,” he continued. “That’s the thing that has always been a goal, to come up with the definitive version of something you’ve never heard before, the true struggle to make it that believable.”

Perry is currently preparing for a collaboration with Willie Nelson on Journey’s classic “Faithfully.”

His comments emerge amid speculation about a potential return to Journey. Recent social media activity from his former bandmates has fueled these discussions.

Antimusic revealed Perry’s firm stance on the matter. He has explicitly denied any plans to rejoin the band. His focus remains on pursuing new musical directions.

The band’s history includes several lineup changes since Perry’s departure. WCSX documented Journey’s vocal evolution. Steve Augeri led the band from 1998 to 2006. Arnel Pineda has served as the frontman since 2007.

The potential Willie Nelson collaboration on “Faithfully” signals a new direction for Perry. Additional details about this project remain unconfirmed.
