Mike Shinoda recently revealed the creative process behind a unique Linkin Park collaboration in an interview with Drink Champs.

The Linkin Park co-founder detailed an unexpected collaboration with legendary rapper Rakim on one of the band’s heaviest metal tracks.

“We did a song With Rakim. We had a song off of one of our heaviest metal records. It’s like this Metallica-style six minutes song,” Shinoda explained. “And we have this place in the middle where I was thinking of doing a verse. Actually they were saying like, ‘You should do a rap verse on this.’ ‘Cuz that’s the most unexpected thing you could do.”

Shinoda then described their push for innovation.

“In my brain, I was like, ‘Well, what can we do that’d be even more unexpected?’ And we managed to reach out to Rakim and he drove, ‘cuz he doesn’t fly, he drove out from New York and came all the way out to LA,” he continued.

The collaboration demonstrates Linkin Park’s commitment to pushing musical boundaries through genre-blending and artistic partnerships.

This groundbreaking collaboration became a significant milestone in the band’s discography.

Wikipedia documents that the collaboration produced “Guilty All the Same” for their album “The Hunting Party.” The track distinguished itself through its unique fusion of metal and hip-hop. The band also self-produced the song, maintaining complete creative control over the final product.

The song highlighted Linkin Park’s artistic evolution. Linkinpedia noted that this track marked a departure from their previous work. It successfully merged heavy metal elements with sophisticated rap verses.

The collaboration reflected Linkin Park’s established pattern of genre-crossing projects. Their “Reanimation” project exemplified this commitment to musical experimentation. The album featured remixed tracks from “Hybrid Theory” with contributions from various hip-hop and electronic artists.
