Mike Mangini, former Dream Theater drummer, shared his thoughts on his current state of mind and new musical direction in an interview with Sonic Perspectives.

“I was in such a peaceful place as far as having an opportunity to see all of this educational stuff that’s been hanging there,” Mangini said. “I have all this work to do. So I don’t want to really jump into anything, and we’ll see what happens.”

“I was able to decline certain things,” he continued. “When I had a thought about playing, I usually pulled it back and went I don’t think I want to do that but we’ll see what floats in. Because I have all this stuff to do.”

Mangini discussed his decision to join Monolith: “When Motley [Hernán ‘Motley’ Rodríguez] sent me the music that he and Andy [Barrow] wrote and worked on with Gabo… And then, now they got the three of these guys that morphed this thing by the time I was able to hear it, it was a no-brainer.”

This statement follows his recent departure from Dream Theater and subsequent replacement by returning member Mike Portnoy.

Mangini has actively pursued various musical ventures since leaving Dream Theater. His work demonstrates his versatility as a musician and commitment to exploring new creative territories.

Q94.5 All Rock revealed that Mangini’s solo album ‘Invisible Signs’ dropped in November 2023. The album features collaborations with notable musicians Gus G. and former Evanescence guitarist Jen Majura.

Consequence reported on Mangini’s new project, Monolith. The band features singer-bassist Hernán ‘Motley’ Rodríguez and guitarist Andy Barrow. They have already released two singles that showcase their unique musical direction.

Blabbermouth highlighted Monolith’s latest singles ‘Oligarchs’ and ‘Mother Martyr.’ These releases showcase the band’s distinctive sound, blending various metal and rock elements in the contemporary music scene.
