Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has revealed his thoughts about the band’s Iron Maiden cover in a new interview with Metal Hammer.

“We did one horrible Iron Maiden cover [‘Remember Tomorrow’] with him [former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez],” Åkerfeldt said. “The singing’s sh*t, the playing’s sh*t.”

The band recorded the Iron Maiden cover during Martin Lopez’s time as drummer. Åkerfeldt made this frank assessment while discussing various aspects of Opeth’s discography.

His recent criticism offers fresh perspective on one of the band’s earlier works. This has sparked renewed interest in the cover’s history.

Documentation from historical records shows the cover appeared on Opeth’s 1998 album ‘My Arms, Your Hearse.’ Candlelight Records released the album with Fredrik Nordström handling production duties.

Classic Rock details the recording’s lineup. Mikael Åkerfeldt performed lead vocals. Sven Peter Malcom Lindgren played guitar. Martin Lopez handled the drum parts.

Louder notes that Opeth typically focuses on original compositions. The band crafts a distinctive sound by mixing progressive rock, death metal, and folk music elements.

The ‘Remember Tomorrow’ cover stands as a distinctive moment in Opeth’s history. It represents one of their few ventures into covering classic metal tracks. The recording remains a significant part of their catalog despite Åkerfeldt’s current disappointment with it.
