Mick Jones recently issued a statement on Instagram to clarify his absence from Foreigner shows. Jones confirmed he has been struggling with Parkinson’s disease which affected his live performance. The guitarist stated:
“Fans will have become very aware that for some time now, I have not been performing onstage with the band. Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I want everyone to know that I am doing alright. However, I’ve always liked to be at my best when performing onstage, and sadly, at present, I find that a bit difficult. I am still very much involved in the background with Foreigner and remain a presence.”
Regarding the support he received from the Foreigner fans, Mick added:
“Parkinson’s is a daily struggle; the important thing is to persevere and remind myself of the wonderful career I’ve had in music. I thank all the fans who have supported Foreigner throughout the years and continue to attend our concerts — I want you to know I appreciate your support; it always means so very much to me, but especially so at this point in my life.”
Will Foreigner Tour Without Mick Jones?

After the guitarist shared details about his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis, fans began to wonder whether Foreigner would continue without Mick Jones. Last year, in an interview with Kiki Classic Rock, Jeff Pilson implied that Jones would be okay with Foreigner performing without him in the band. Pilson explained:
“I don’t even think that’s something he opposes as much as it just feels like the right time. And I think he feels like, ‘Let’s go out while we’re still on top. Kelly’s [Hansen] is still singing like a million bucks. Everybody’s performing at their best.’ And I think — well, I know — that the objective here is to go out on a high note, which not all bands do.”
Although Jones’ statement about his disease is upsetting for Foreigner fans, he insisted that he doesn’t have plans to leave the band entirely. His involvement in Foreigner, even in the background, will definitely have an impact on the band’s future endeavors.
