Michael Schenker has addressed the recent changes in his band’s lineup in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“Eric Grönwall has had to step away from the tour due to personal reasons,” Schenker said. “However, there’s a chance he may rejoin the band for the UK dates later on.”
“In the meantime, Roberto Dimitri Liapakis will take over lead vocals for the remaining shows,” he continued.
The announcement emerges during the band’s ongoing tour schedule. Fans are anticipating the upcoming performances with the temporary lineup change.
The lineup change impacts Schenker’s current touring plans. The changes have already generated significant interest among fans and industry observers.
Ultimate Classic Rock revealed that the current tour, titled ‘My Years With UFO,’ celebrates Schenker’s tenure with the legendary band UFO. The tour features re-recorded versions of classics like ‘Doctor Doctor’ and ‘Rock Bottom.’
Arrow Lords of Metal noted Grönwall’s recent vocal contribution to the track ‘Mother Mary’ on Schenker’s 2024 album. The album also showcases guest appearances by Slash and Axl Rose.
Michael Schenker’s official website had initially announced the European leg of the tour with Grönwall as the frontman. The lineup included longtime members such as drummer Bodo Schopf.
The temporary vocal change arrives at a crucial time during the tour. Schenker’s statement leaves open the possibility of Grönwall’s return for the upcoming UK performances.
