In a recent appearance on ‘My Planet Rocks,’ Dave Mustaine talked about his career and shared some points about Megadeth’s early days. He claimed that Metallica put barriers in his band’s way to keep them from being successful in the past.
The singer started by explaining:
“We’ve had adversity against us since the beginning because of Metallica, and it’s no secret; everybody knows that. They’ve gone out of their way to try and keep us from being successful.”
He went on to clear the air about the current relationship between the bands:
“It’s the public’s belief that there’s some kind of beef between us, and there really isn’t. So, take that into consideration.”
Then, looking back on the past, the frontman added:
“I don’t think any band would have been able to make it if they had one of the biggest bands in the world trying to squash you. But, you know, I wasn’t going to let that bother me or stop me, and as much as back in the day we talked about it from a negative point of view, I prefer to talk about it from a positive place now. A place of forgiveness and healing.”
During last week’s interview with Guitar World, Mustaine spoke more about his current views on the band and their music. Metallica’s former guitarist claimed that he moved past any old issues and was open to listening to their songs without any problems.
He also revealed his interest in performing with the Big 4 again, noting:
“I have not heard Metallica’s latest record. But there was a time around 20 years ago when we were not being friendly toward each other when I couldn’t listen to their music when it came on the radio. But none of that bothers me anymore, and it’s not why I haven’t heard the record, especially after the Big 4 thing that we did. I really think we should do that again.”
Metallica and Megadeth are currently out on their separate tours, with the former’s planned tour dates extending until September 2024. Because of that, despite Dave Mustaine’s wishes, Anthrax’s Scott Ian is not very positive about another Big 4 show in the near future.
