Matty Healy’s problematic ‘show’ at Malaysia’s Good Vibes Festival has forced the government to take new anti-LGBTQ+ precautions to ensure foreign artists won’t break the guidelines while they are performing.

Healy’s Controversial Set

The 1975 frontman had wanted to protest Malaysia’s anti-LGBTQ+ government, so he decided to kiss his bandmate, Ross MacDonald on stage. That didn’t end well, of course, as his set got canceled soon after the kiss. Then, the whole festival was canceled as well.

So, to ensure that no one ‘breaks the guidelines’ again, the government has brought strict rules of mandatory killswitch for festivals and shows that might feature foreign artists. This means that if someone were to do something that the Malaysian government did not find fit, their show would be cut off.

Matty Claims He Was Almost Sent To Prison

Healy, after the kiss with MacDonald, reportedly was taken under arrest and banned from the country. The vocalist even stated that he feared he and his bandmate would be going to prison for acting ‘queer.’ He said:

“All I’ll say is that I don’t give a f*ck about any white saviour complex bullshit. What I’ll say is that doing the right thing often requires quite a lot of sacrifice and very little reward. And being seen to do the right thing requires very little sacrifice, and that’s when you get all the rewards.”

He then added:

“And me and Ross [MacDonald] nearly shaved our heads because we thought we were going to prison for being f*gs.”
