Ringo Starr has stated that he has no desire to pursue a solo career and prefers to be part of a band.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, he revealed that he dislikes the idea of being ‘out there on [his] own.’ “I only want to be in a band. I don’t want to be out on my own. There’s no way you can go out there and do ‘Yesterday’ just on drums,” the drummer explained.
The Beatle also spoke about his new country album ‘Look Up,’ a collaboration with producer T.Bone Burnett. The producer co-wrote nine of the 11 songs on the album. While he hadn’t intended to make a country album, he revealed that Burnett sent him a song that amazed him. “There was no plan to make a country record. He sent me this beautiful country track, and that blows me away even today. I thought he’d be sending me a rock-pop sort of song, because you’re just in that world,” Starr said.
Recently, Starr took place in a mini Beatles reunion with Paul McCartney at the end of McCartney’s 2024 ‘Got Back’ tour at The O2 in London.
After inviting Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood to perform ‘Get Back,’ McCartney surprised the audience by inviting the Beatle to join him for the encore, telling the crowd: “So, we have another surprise for you. Bringing to the stage, the mighty, the one and only, Ringo Starr!”
The two performed ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)’ before launching into a rendition of ‘Helter Skelter.’
