Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor recently gave an interview to Revolver Magazine and remembered the time Maynard James Keenan pulled a prank on him.

Tool members, especially the band’s frontman, Maynard James Keenan, have made a name for themselves as pranksters after pulling a prank on their fans, the bands they share the same stage, or even each other during live shows. Moreover, Keenan is a talented comedy actor as well, and he appeared in some comedy movies like ‘Bikini Bandits.’

Back in 2005, on April Fool’s day, Tool announced that Maynard James Keenan had found Jesus, and he would focus on religious matters rather than his career in Tool. Later on, it turned out that this was a prank. On 2007’s April Fool’s day, Keenan again fooled Tool fans by announcing that Sammy Hagar would be their new lead singer to help them progress.

In a recent interview with Revolver, Brann Dailor also confirmed that Tool members are relentless pranksters. He stated that the band always pranks people, and they even pranked him back when he was playing with Tool drummer Danny Carey during the ‘10,000 Days Tour’ in 2016.

Dailor then recalled that one night during the tour, Maynard James Keenan came out of nowhere and took his drumsticks away. Keenan then walked off stage, and Dailor was left with no drumsticks to play. According to the drummer, he had to do hand drumming for the rest of that show.

In the interview with Revolver, Brann Dailor recalled the following:

“They’re pranksters. We’re not pranksters, but those guys are pranksters, for sure. They’re always doing stuff like that to people. There was a point in the set where I would come out and play along with Danny Carey. They would set up some toms for me to play on. While I was doing that one night, Maynard James Keenan came out from behind his little hovel back there and took my sticks away, and walked off stage. So I was left to do some hand drumming.”

In February 2022, Maynard James Keenan also pranked Blonde Redhead, the opening act for Tool’s ‘Fear Inoculum Tour.’ On the tour’s final show, Keenan and his bandmates got on the stage in the middle of Blonde Redhead’s performance while wearing long and blond wigs and headbanging to the band’s show.
