It’s been just over a month since Foo Fighters introduced their new drummer Josh Freese and he recently took to Instagram to recall a ‘surprisingly not nerve-wracking’ moment he shared with Dave Grohl on his third show with the band. He wrote:

“Middle section of ‘Breakout’ on my 3rd Foo Fighters show about a month ago Columbus, Ohio. Out of nowhere, I decided to reference the Nine Inch Nails song ‘You Know What You Are’ that I used to play every night on tour, but Dave [Grohl] recorded it on the record. I love when he hears it and lights up. At the end, you can see me making sure he caught it. Yes, he caught it. Duh.”

Josh added that playing the drums behind Grohl was more fun than it was nerve-wracking by saying:

“By the way, playing drums behind one of the world’s greatest guitarists is a total trip. Surprisingly not nerve-wracking but really just inspiring and fun. And that’s the truth, Ruth.”

Former Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh, who knew all the tracks by heart, was the drummer for the Taylor Hawkins tribute show last fall that Justin Hawkins was also a part of. So, after Freese taking over the drums for Foo Fighters was officially announced, Hawkins shared on his YouTube channel that it was the right call by saying:

“The thing to remember is he was in Nine Inch Nails for a long time, and in order to be the drummer of Nine Inch Nails, you must be great. That’s the only thing you need to have is just greatness, and he’s got that. This is a brilliant appointment under, you know, it’s bittersweet obviously because we’d all prefer it if Taylor Hawkins was still alive, but in the absence of Taylor Hawkins, Josh Freese is a good call that’s a good call.”
