Jon Bon Jovi has addressed his vocal recovery and the band’s upcoming Forever tour in a new interview, four years after undergoing vocal cord surgery.

The rock icon spoke candidly about the lengthy recovery process. He expressed confidence that he is now fully ready to return to the stage.

“I’m fully recovered. It was longer than I’d ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith,” he said.

Bon Jovi also reflected on the unwavering support he received from his bandmates throughout the difficult period.

“My bandmates never doubted [me] and never looked for work or decided to retire. The sacrifices that each one of them have made to be there for me is on a whole ‘nother level,” he continued. “They said, ‘No, we’re with you.’ Every day of every rehearsal they were there with me. My love for them has only deepened.”

The comments come ahead of the band’s Forever tour, marking their long-awaited return following Bon Jovi’s multi-year recovery journey.

The road back was far from straightforward. Doctors discovered that one of Bon Jovi’s vocal cords was atrophying, with the affected cord having deteriorated to the width of a pinky finger. The diagnosis made the procedure not just necessary, but urgent.

The recovery tested him in ways that went beyond the physical. Bon Jovi has described the process as “soul-searching.” The early stages of returning to the studio were particularly difficult, as his voice did not sound like himself, adding an emotional weight to the comeback.

The procedure Bon Jovi underwent was a complex surgery known as vocal fold medialization. It was followed by an extended rehabilitation period during which he had to relearn how to speak and sing from the ground up.

Throughout that time, the band’s loyalty proved to be a cornerstone of his recovery. His bandmates refused to move on, showed up to every rehearsal, and never pursued other projects. Their dedication made the Forever tour possible.

“You put your faith in the God above,” he said, reflecting on the uncertainty that defined much of the recovery period — a sentiment that underscores just how close the band came to never touring again.
