Jake Holmes, a songwriter, has filed a new lawsuit against Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page. The news was reported by Reuters.

Holmes alleges that Page and Warner Chappell violated his rights in the song ‘Dazed and Confused.’ The lawsuit states they breached a settlement agreement. The breach occurred through the release of new early live recordings and the song’s inclusion in Sony Pictures’ ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ documentary without proper credit or compensation.

The legal action continues a series of previous ownership disputes. The case is expected to develop further as proceedings continue.

This latest legal challenge represents a new chapter in the ongoing controversy between Holmes and Led Zeppelin.

A 2010 report from Wikipedia documents Holmes’ initial lawsuit claiming original authorship of ‘Dazed and Confused.’ The parties reached an out-of-court settlement in 2011. The resolution led to updated songwriter credits acknowledging Holmes’ contribution with the notation ‘By Page – Inspired by Jake Holmes’ in subsequent releases.

Far Out Magazine highlighted the song’s enduring significance in Led Zeppelin’s catalog. Promotional recordings featuring ‘Dazed and Confused’ have become collectors’ items. A promotional EP with the song as a B-side ranked among the top ten most valuable Led Zeppelin collectibles in 2002.

The ongoing disputes underscore the complexities of music copyright law. The song remains a subject of controversy since its release. Holmes’ current lawsuit specifically addresses alleged new violations of the previous settlement agreement.
