In a recent Instagram post, Jay Weinberg expressed his excitement and honor about joining Suicidal Tendencies, marking a new chapter in his musical career.

The drummer shared his deep-seated respect and admiration for the band, highlighting the significance of this new role in his life. He said in his statement:

“When I think of the culture and community of heavy music that I’ve loved and considered my creative home for 20 years, I think of Suicidal Tendencies. A foundational pillar and source of inspiration ever since I fell in love with punk, metal, and hardcore. Having toured and played shows together all over the world, I’ve been so fortunate to become friends with my musical heroes, who have been a part of this band’s incredible history. It’s an absolute honor and privilege to play with Suicidal Tendencies, and I can’t wait to start this incredibly exciting new chapter in just one week! See you all in the pit!”

“You can’t bring me down.”

Live Debut And Upcoming Shows

The musician is set to make his live debut with Suicidal Tendencies in Japan, with performances scheduled for March 14 in Osaka and March 16 in Chiba. Additionally, the band is slated to appear at the No Values festival in Pomona, California, on June 8, followed by a series of European festival dates throughout June and July.

Joining Weinberg in Suicidal Tendencies are lead guitarist Dean Pleasants, rhythm guitarist Ben Weinman (of The Dillinger Escape Plan fame), and bassist Tye Trujillo, who is the son of Metallica’s Robert Trujillo. Weinberg’s addition comes shortly after his involvement with Infectious Grooves, another project connected to Robert Trujillo and Suicidal Tendencies’ frontman Mike Muir. The band has scheduled performances in the U.S. and a short tour in Australia.

Departure From Slipknot

After their show at Mexico’s Hell and Heaven Festival last November, Slipknot surprisingly announced they were splitting up with Weinberg. Shortly after, the drummer expressed his shock and sadness online, saying:

“I was heartbroken and blindsided to receive the phone call that I did on the morning of November 5; the news of which, most of you learned shortly after. However, I’ve been overwhelmed by — and truly grateful for — the outpouring of love and support I’ve received from this incredible community I consider to be my creative and artistic home.”

Slipknot still hasn’t revealed who will take over Weinberg’s role as drummer. Their first performance without him will be at the Sick New World festival on April 27.
