Former Dokken guitarist George Lynch identified Stryper’s Michael Sweet as the vocalist who best recreates the classic Dokken sound. He shared this insight in a recent interview with Talking With Cars.

Lynch reflected on his musical collaboration with Sweet and compared it to his earlier work with Don Dokken.

“Yeah, I think this is the closest thing to… when I play with Michael, I think that’s the closest formula that we had to Dokken,” Lynch said. “I mean it’s kind of a similar, kind of in the same ballpark. Melodic hard rock. I think that’s kind of cool where I can kind of explore that side of you know what I’ve done in the past, and do it in a kind of with a little twist.”

The guitarist’s comments emphasized the musical similarities between his past and present collaborations in the melodic hard rock genre.

His comparison is supported by an established successful musical partnership.

Eddie Trunk reported that the duo formed the project Sweet & Lynch. The collaboration brought together bassist James Lomenzo and drummer Brian Tichy.

The partnership yielded impressive results. Wikipedia documented their debut album ‘Only to Rise’ reaching No. 6 on the US Top Hard Rock Albums chart. The achievement showcased the strong chemistry between Lynch’s guitar work and Sweet’s vocal abilities.

The collaboration’s success builds on Lynch’s established legacy. Rock and Roll Globe noted his tenure with Dokken began in 1981. The band achieved significant commercial success through hits like ‘Alone Again’ and ‘Dream Warriors.’ These accomplishments established Dokken as a leading force in 80s melodic hard rock.

Their musical partnership continues to showcase the signature melodic hard rock sound. Lynch pioneered this style during his time with Dokken and now expresses it through his collaboration with Sweet.
