Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider recently ignited a long debate with his Twitter followers about the difference between a great performer and a great singer. According to him, being a performer requires completely different qualities than just stage presence. Then, Snider also replied to a question and named his favorite leads.
Before revealing his favorites, the singer had defined what a great lead meant to him in a previous tweet. He wrote, “For me, a great frontman has people in the audience wishing/dreaming they could be like him or her. A commanding presence (yes, like me) who captivates the imagination of the crowd.”
Then, when a user asked about the vocalists Snider admired the most, the rocker replied, “Good question. Believe it or not, I didn’t go to many concerts in my teens, so I got my ‘frontman’ inspiration from photos! I never saw anyone move! Lol! Frontmen I respect? Bruce Dickinson, David Lee Roth, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Axl Rose, and James Brown the goat.”
Although the musician named these icons his favorites, he also revealed that he hadn’t had the chance to see all of them perform live. So, they inspired him mainly through photos or videos. It seems like Snider is a massive admirer of KISS as a live act, as he listed two names from the band. Or maybe it was because he too, could not decide who the frontman of KISS is.
Considering the names he listed, it is evident that Dee Snider really cares about performance and expects an energetic presence on the stage. He thinks these frontmen captivate the audience with their charming charisma and moving stage shows. In a previous tweet, Dee had also reflected on Freddie Mercury and put the late singer before all other names he listed by describing him as both an amazing singer and a great frontman.
