KISS’ ‘End of the Road’ farewell tour’s last stop is just a few months away, and Gene Simmons has already made new business moves in the film industry before his retirement. The rocker sat down with Variety and discussed his new project ‘Deep Water.’ He explained:

“Throughout my storied history in the music business, I’ve met all sorts of characters, but Gary Hamilton is the real deal! He’s a remarkable film executive and a great collaborator who, along with the fantastic team at Arclight Films, brings his expertise and outstanding knowledge of the film industry to this partnership. I am pumped and excited to be launching ‘Deep Water’ as our first project together with the action maven Renny Harlin at the helm.”

The movie is about an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane has to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. The group is forced to work together to escape the sinking plane and the sharks. The film, which is dubbed as a survival thriller, is scheduled to begin production later this year.

In addition to making moves in Hollywood, Gene also talked about painting, another passion he got into during the pandemic. He even showed the artwork to Nicholas Leone, owner of a gallery in Las Vegas, and struck a deal to exhibit and sell them.

Here’s what Simmons shared with The Wall Street Journal about his new venture in 2021:

“There’s only so much TV you are going to watch. So I decided to try my hand at painting, which is what I do often – unprepared, untrained, no résumé, no experience, just do it. Like anything I do, I do it big. I ordered 8-foot-by-4-foot canvases and just went to town.”
