Phil Collen Shares The Story Behind ‘SOS Emergency’ Of Def Leppard

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen recently posted some tweets through the band’s official Twitter account to reveal how they wrote the song ‘SOS Emergency.’

On March 15, 2022, Def Leppard announced their twelfth studio album titled ‘Diamond Star Halos.’ The band released the album on May 27, 2022, marking their first studio album in around seven years since their 2015 record ‘Def Leppard.’ Moreover, ‘Diamond Star Halos’ is also the band’s second-longest album after ‘Hysteria.’

Before releasing the album, Def Leppard released its lead single ‘Kick’ on March 17. Apart from ‘Kick,’ ‘Diamond Star Halos’ also features vocals from Alison Krauss on the songs ‘Lifeless’ and ‘This Guitar.’ This summer, Def Leppard will have a chance to promote the new record on the Stadium Tour with Mötley Crüe.

The Stadium Tour will kick off on June 16 after a two-year break and conclude on September 9. Throughout the tour, Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett will share the same stage with Def Leppard. According to Joe Elliott, they will be able to introduce new songs through the Stadium Tour, thanks to the delay.

In a recent tweet series, Def Leppard shared the stories behind ‘Diamond Star Halos’ songs as part of Tim Burgess’ Twitter listening party event. Phil Collen revealed in the tweets that he wrote ‘SOS Emergency’ six years ago, but he had the chorus and guitar parts only. Collen then said they forgot about it, but he reminded Elliott about the song, and he wrote lyrics and a new section to it.

In the tweet, Phil Collen said the following:

I started writing ‘SOS Emergency’ 6+ years ago. I’d had the demo done with only the chorus & a lot of the guitars. I played it to Joe then, and he was like, ‘This is great!’ but we forgot about it.”

He then continued in the following tweet:

“So when we started getting songs together for the album, I reminded Joe we had this song, and he was like ‘Sh*t, yeah!’ and then he wrote all the lyrics + a new section to what I had already done. Before you knew it, it was finally a real song!
