Gene Simmons Addresses KISS’ Retirement Decision
KISS’ Gene Simmons recently joined an interview with Full Metal Jackie on KLOS and stated that they chose the right time to end their career due to their self-respect and admiration for the fans.
Like gaining worldwide recognition and touring endlessly, retirement decisions are essential in the music world. Retirement comes in many forms, from long farewell tours to parting ways after losing a member. After having a very successful career of nearly five decades, KISS decided to retire since the band members wouldn’t be physically capable of hitting the road for one more time, partially because of their heavy stage outfits and challenging live shows.
Thus, the band is ready to end its musical journey with its ‘End of the Road World Tour.’ The tour began on January 31, 2019, in Vancouver, Canada. Still, it was interrupted by the pandemic afterward. As a result, the band postponed most of the shows that would take place in 2020 and 2021. They were rescheduled for the following months.
During a recent interview, Gene Simmons reflected on their decision to retire and how he feels about it. The bassist stated that KISS is doing the right thing by ending their career at this point since they don’t want to disappoint the fans by staying in the ring too long.
He thinks it is just the perfect timing for them to say goodbye to the stage due to their self-respect and love for the fans. He knows that they will not be able to take it after a certain point due to their age. They have respect for the fans, so it is the right time to end their journey while they can still perform well.
Gene Simmons’ thoughts on KISS’ retirement decision:
“The last thing you want to be is a world-champion boxer and stay in the ring too long. It’s only a matter of time until your legs are not going to be able to hold you up, and you’re going to lose. We’ve also seen boxers who’ve stayed in the ring too long and bands who continue touring too long. And they forget lyrics, and you can see the deep wrinkles on their faces. I mean, it’s just the nature of life as we know it on Earth. So we’re doing the right thing.”
After finishing the Latin America and the United States legs of the ‘End of the Road World Tour,’ KISS has been reading to start the European leg on June 1, 2022, in Dortmund, Germany. The band keeps adding new dates to the ongoing tour, but they plan to end it by early 2023.
