Geddy Lee recently discussed Rush’s plans to pay tribute to late drummer Neil Peart during their upcoming ‘Fifty Something’ tour. He shared details about how the band will honor their former bandmate in a statement to Fantástico.
The Rush frontman explained how the band intends to incorporate special tribute moments into their performances with new drummer Anika Nilles.
“Well, we’ve been talking about certain songs that we feel really, really give us the vision of Neil,” Lee said. “And we’ll pick those songs and each set, of the two sets, so twice a night we will pick a song to play sort of for him and we’ll present a visual tribute behind us to Neil, whether it be to his lyrics or just to his playing or whatever.”
Lee emphasized the emotional significance of these planned tributes for both the band and their audiences.
“Take a moment, play these songs with him in mind so the whole audience and us can remember him,” he continued.
The upcoming tour represents a significant milestone for the Canadian rock legends. It marks their return to the stage after an extended hiatus.
Dickies Arena reported that the tour marks the first time Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson have toured together in eleven years, since Rush’s R40 Tour finale in 2015. The extended break followed Peart’s retirement from touring due to health concerns. This ultimately led to the band’s indefinite hiatus.
The Fifty Something Tour will feature German drummer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Anika Nilles. She brings her own distinctive style to the legendary trio’s sound. Rush is a Band confirmed that the tour includes multiple dates across North America. Stops are planned at major venues including State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
The tour’s emotional weight extends beyond just the band members. Neil’s family has expressed their support for the tribute plans. Neil’s widow Carrie Nuttall-Peart and daughter Olivia are reportedly thrilled to see his legacy honored as both drummer and lyricist during these performances.
Live Nation announced that the tour will extend internationally with European dates planned for 2027. Shows are scheduled at Unity Arena in Oslo and Avicii Arena in Stockholm. This demonstrates the global reach of Rush’s enduring fanbase.
The tribute plans represent Rush’s way of keeping Peart’s memory alive as they continue touring with their new lineup. They ensure that his contributions to the band’s legendary catalog remain central to their live performances.
