Josh Freese has revealed his unexpected departure from Foo Fighters through a statement on Instagram.
The veteran drummer shared details about his sudden dismissal, describing how he received the news via phone call.
“The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they’ve decided ‘to go in a different direction with their drummer.’ No reason was given,” Freese stated. “Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.”
Freese reflected on his extensive career while sharing his perspective on the situation.
“In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band, so while I’m not angry just a bit shocked and disappointed. But as most of you know I’ve always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I’m fine,” he continued. “Stay tuned for my ‘Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters’ list.”
This sudden departure concludes Freese’s brief tenure with the band, which he joined after Taylor Hawkins’ tragic loss.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the band will perform their next major show in Singapore on October 4. They have not yet announced a replacement drummer.
Freese’s career encompasses decades of notable collaborations. Spin Magazine highlighted his work as a sought-after session drummer before joining Foo Fighters. His credits include performances with Guns N’ Roses and A Perfect Circle.
The A.V. Club emphasized Freese’s musical versatility through his work with various bands, including Devo. This adaptability made him an ideal choice for Foo Fighters during their transition period.
Freese’s extensive network and industry reputation suggest a quick return to professional activities. His history of successful collaborations with prominent artists demonstrates his adaptability and professional approach to music.
