Ex-Trivium drummer Alex Bent recently shared details about his final work with the band, addressing the personal challenges he faced during its creation in a statement posted on Instagram.

Bent’s comments centered on the emotional and logistical demands of creating the EP Struck Dead while simultaneously caring for his daughter during a critical health crisis.

“Thanks everyone for the kind words. This will be my last released work with Trivium. This EP (Struck Dead) has a meaningful history for me,” Bent said. “I was going between the Hangar and the hospital, day and night, to write this EP. I spent countless hours trying to perfect my parts while also splitting my time to be by my daughter Layla’s side as she fought for her life in critical condition in the NICU.”

Bent expressed gratitude for his daughter’s recovery and reflected on the bittersweet nature of the release following his departure from the band.

“I am so grateful she is healthy and thriving now. This is a bittersweet release as the band and I have since gone our separate ways, but I’m very proud of how it came together. I’m looking forward to whatever the future holds, and I can’t wait to get back on the road and on stage again.”

Bent’s departure marks a significant transition for both the drummer and the metal band. Consequence reported that Bent joined Trivium in 2016 and served as the band’s drummer for nearly a decade, establishing himself as a key member during a prolific period in the group’s career.

During his tenure with Trivium, Bent contributed to three major studio albums that defined the band’s recent output. Wikipedia documents that he played on The Sin and the Sentence (2017), What the Dead Men Say (2020), and In the Court of the Dragon (2021). Each album showcased the band’s evolution within the metal genre.

The timing of Bent’s departure was particularly notable. Loudwire noted that his exit was officially announced in early October 2025, just before Trivium’s North American tour began. Sepultura’s Greyson Nekrutman was announced as his temporary replacement for live shows.

The Struck Dead EP represents Bent’s final recorded contribution to Trivium’s catalog, making it a poignant closing chapter to his nearly decade-long partnership with the band. As Trivium continues to evolve amid lineup changes, this release serves as a notable moment of transition for both Bent and the group. It captures a unique moment in the band’s history during a period of significant personal and professional upheaval.
