In a recent chat with CBS News Sunday Morning correspondent Jim Axelrod, Geddy Lee discussed if Rush considered a new drummer following Neil Peart.

Alex Lifeson was also present in the interview with Lee. The guitarist spoke about what the future holds for him and Geddy in the wake of Peart’s death, saying:

“Yeah, it’s difficult to figure out what that chapter is without him.”

Touring With A New Drummer

In response to a question on whether he and Alex have considered partnering with a top drummer for a new tour, Geddy replied:

“Have we talked about it? Yeah. It’s not impossible, but at this point, I can’t guarantee it.”

Lifeson’s Positive Outlook On Continuing

Lifeson stepped in and commented, giving a green light for a possible tour:

“It’s just not in our DNA to stop.”

The bassist then added, reflecting on staying true to oneself and one’s artistic vision:

“Do what you believe because if you do what someone else believes, and you fail, you’ve got nothing. If you do what you believe, and you fail, you still have hope.”

Hints At A Possible Rush Reunion

Last month, Lee spoke to the Washington Post and seemed positive about a reunion with Lifeson. The rocker explained:

“It had been a taboo subject, and playing those songs again with a third person was the elephant in the room, and that kind of disappeared. It was nice to know that if we decide to go out, Alex and I, whether we went out as part of a new thing or whether we just wanted to go out and play Rush as Rush, we could do that now.”

Chad Smith’s View On A Potential Rush Reunion

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith also touched upon the issue while discussing his experience performing with Lee and Lifeson at a tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins in Los Angeles in an August conversation with Danny Wimmer. During this chat, the drummer expressed optimism about a possible reunion of Rush, mentioning:

“I think doing this Taylor [Hawkins] thing again has gotten them [Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson] kind of rejuvenated, ‘Maybe we can do it?’ Because that was such a huge hole with Neil [Peart]  you can’t replace f*cking Neil period. He’s been with them for 40 whatever years.”

In a previous interview with Long Island Weekly, Geddy spoke about rediscovering a couple of songs from his 2000 solo album ‘My Favourite Headache.’ This experience reignited his passion for studio work. Lee expressed a desire to revisit these songs and potentially work with Lifeson, on new music.
