Journey drummer Deen Castronovo has hinted at ending his career with the legendary rock band after their upcoming tour. He shared this announcement in a statement on Instagram.

The drummer’s announcement comes as the band prepares for what appears to be a farewell tour. Castronovo reflected on his decades-long journey with the group.

“Storytime about my kit… This purple pearlescent spray finish was the first color I picked when we started Bad English in ’88 — that was the beginning with Neal and Jon,” Castronovo said. “Now I’ll finish our 35+ year run in Journey behind a kit wearing that same spray finish.”

The drummer also shared a personal anecdote about the band’s early days and the challenges they faced.

“Did you know the whole truck was stolen while we were making the second Bad English record — with all the gear inside, including my original drum kit and some of Neal’s guitars and amps?” he continued. “Gone… but not forgotten. Full circle. See you out there in eight days, brothers and sisters.”

Castronovo’s potential departure follows keyboardist Jonathan Cain’s previous announcement about leaving Journey after the tour.

“It’s time for me, at my age. I wanna live my life, and the road just is so consuming and it just seems like a good time to get off, for me,” Cain had said. “And I just love our fans, and I wanna do it in a proper farewell, to say goodbye.”

The upcoming farewell marks a significant moment in rock history. Journey prepares to close a chapter that has spanned decades of touring and recording.

That Eric Alper reported that the band has officially announced their “Final Frontier Tour” across North America. The tour spans from 2026 into 2027 with dates from March to June. The tour will feature the current lineup including Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Arnel Pineda, Jason Derlatka, Castronovo, and Todd Jensen, visiting cities like Hamilton, Montreal, and Sacramento.

The farewell tour comes amid speculation about potential lineup changes. Louder Sound revealed that former singer Steve Perry has denied rumors of rejoining the band for their farewell performances. Perry’s absence from the farewell tour puts to rest fan hopes of a reunion with the band’s most iconic vocalist.

As the band prepares for their final touring chapter, Ultimate Classic Rock disclosed that Jonathan Cain is simultaneously working on new solo material. This includes a faith-inspired EP drawn from a 2024 disaster relief trip. This personal project represents Cain’s transition away from Journey as he prepares to close out his career with the planned two-year Final Frontier Tour.

The upcoming tour may mark the end of an era for Journey. Multiple longtime members are signaling their departure from the band that has defined arena rock for generations.
