Dee Snider’s father didn’t want him to be a singer but failed.

“Oh no he didn’t. He tried desperately to crush my spirit. As you can see, he failed,” the Twisted Sister vocalist replied to a comment on X, which read, “Same for his service in the military and as a police officer. Also he let you be you. Happy b-day, Dee’s dad.”

Snider initially shared a birthday message for his dad, writing, “Heading to NY to see my dad for his 94th birthday! Korean War vet/cop/ dad/hard working provider for our family of 8. Tough man to grow up with but I’ve come to truly love and appreciate him. Happy birthday Master Sargeant Bob Snider!”

His page was quickly filled with well-wishing messages and some clues about the singer’s relationship with his father.

A fan said in the comments, “Wish him a very happy birthday from the ‘friends in your phone?'” Snider responded, “I told him about all the birthday wishes and respect he was/is getting on social media, and he was impressed.”

When a fan asked, “Awesome! Was there ever a time in your TS career when you two didn’t get along? Time, success, and wisdom of age tend to heal relationships,” Dee revealed, “Yes. We didn’t get along from approximately 1968 until 2019. Other than those years, its been fabulous!”

Snider also talked about his relationship with his father in 2022. “Wow, he sounds like a bada**! He must have been an amazing father to raise someone as great as you!” a fan told him on X.

The vocalist responded, “Actually, he was really tough on me & I hated him for it. He inspired most of my music & my career for all the wrong reasons. Several years ago, I realized he made me the man I am & I thanked him for it. These last few years, we’ve become very close. I’m glad he lived long enough.”

He also noted starting to understand his father’s ways in raising him, saying, “I’ve finally come to understand and appreciate the man the raised me. I’m blessed to be able to tell him I love him and hug him. I never could before.”

Snider’s father served a New York State Trooper and court clerk, while his mother was an art teacher. The rocker started his music career in a church choir and school choruses as a child. He eventually got his father’s support, as he testified before the Senate committee for the PMRC Hearing in 1985.
