David Ellefson recently commented on the positive outcomes of his departure from Megadeth. He shared his perspective on Sportzwire Radio.

Since leaving the band, Ellefson has pursued numerous musical projects and collaborations. He reflected on how this transition has allowed him to expand his musical horizons in ways he hadn’t previously anticipated.

“It’s an interesting thing in life. I was very lucky to be in one group for most of my life, and I never sought to, ‘Oh, I wanna go solo,’ or ‘I need to do four other bands.’ But then the day came where the group ended, and then that just sort of created a space for me to just spread my wings and just start playing with a bunch of other people, which, quite honestly, I felt like my chops really needed,” Ellefson said.

Among his recent endeavors is his involvement with Metal Church. He has joined the band as a bassist alongside new vocalist Brian Allen. Ellefson expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration and his long-standing connection with the band’s creative direction.

“It’s really great. I’ve always been a big fan of Kurdt Vanderhoof’s songwriting. I’ve been friends with him since probably 1985, so our paths have just randomly crossed in the funniest places. The band, obviously, through all of it, has maintained its sound. And I think having Brian Allen come in as a respectful new vocalist is fantastic,” he continued.

Ellefson’s exit from Megadeth came under significant circumstances that shaped his perspective on the separation. The founding bassist of the Grammy-winning thrash band was dismissed from Megadeth in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. The situation involved leaked videos that sparked controversy and made continuing with the band untenable.

Ellefson was officially fired from Megadeth just four days after the sexual allegations surfaced publicly, Metal Injection reported. The rapid decision reflected the severity of the situation and the strain it placed on the band’s internal dynamics.

Ellefson has maintained his perspective on the incident, characterizing the leaked content as private adult interactions taken out of context. Blabbermouth documented his statement: “When you bare it all, you’ve got nothing to hide.” This reflects his stance on the controversy that led to his departure.

Despite the contentious nature of his exit, Ellefson has channeled his energy into new musical ventures. His involvement with Metal Church represents a fresh chapter in his career. He has reconnected with longtime collaborators and continues to contribute to the metal music scene. The bassist’s ability to move forward and find creative fulfillment in new projects demonstrates his resilience and commitment to his craft.
