David Draiman: ‘I Am A Strong Supporter Of The LGBTQ+ Community’

2 Min Read

When an X user commented that the metal music scene housed an audience of ‘transphobes, sexists, homophobes, racists, and people who put others down for simply being themselves’ for years, another person claimed that David Draiman’s last three months proved this point.

In response to the tweet, which likely referred to the singer’s pro-Israel stance during the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, he wrote:

“Wtf are you talking about? I support all people’s rights to live the lives they want to live the way they want to live them. I’ve always been a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. Always will be. Regardless of your slander. ‘Do what ye will and harm ye none.'”

Draiman’s Support For The Community

The Disturbed vocalist, facing criticism since early 2023 for opposing Roger Waters’ pro-Palestine views, has been vocal in his support for Israel. He has also been actively speaking up for the LGBTQ+ community’s rights.

Notably, back in February, he defended transgender artist Kim Petras and non-binary artist Sam Smith from criticism over their Grammy performance of ‘Unholy,’ praising it for bringing an element of danger back to rock music.

His Thoughts On The Gender And Sexuality Discussions

Draiman also said ‘no’ to Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill through social media in early 2022. Officially named ‘Parental Rights In Education,’ the bill aimed to ban the talks of gender and sexuality matters with younger students.

So, calling it ‘ridiculous,’ the singer explained his thoughts on the legislation:

“Yes, I read the bill. I have an 8-year-old son who has classmates whose relatives are LGBTQ+. We have many friends that are LGBTQ+. Kids are going to ask questions about the world around them, and they deserve honest, real answers.”
