Despite his age, David Crosby has no intention of leaving the music scene yet. The 81-year-old musician continues making new releases, but performing on stage is apparently not that easy for him. Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock, Crosby said he has a Plan B in case he can’t play live shows again.
“Yeah, I think so,” Crosby responded when asked if he was done touring. “I can’t guarantee that. It’s possible that I could teach my guitar parts to somebody else. I can’t play well enough anymore. I’ve got tendonitis in both hands. I can’t play well enough for my standards on stage. I could probably get away with it, and you’d probably like it, but it’s not good enough for me. It’s possible I might do a residency someplace. We’ll see.”
David Crosby made his latest release last year, titled ‘For Free.’ Following that release, he put forth the 50th-anniversary edition of his ‘I Could Only Remember My Name.’ Soon after that, the musician announced he was recording his first-ever solo live CD/DVD set, ‘David Crosby & The Lighthouse Band Live At The Capitol Theatre,’ which is set to be released on December 9.
However, David Crosby doesn’t think this is enough. There is a new album he just completed mixing, and it’s waiting for the live record to hit the stores, but Crosby is already working on another one. Although the musician is eager to continue making new music efforts, it sounds like he can’t handle live shows anymore.
Last year, David Crosby announced that the strength of his hands was deteriorating due to a condition called tendonitis. He had said it causes pain and makes it difficult for him to play the guitar. Sadly, it has no treatment. For that reason, Crosby thinks he cannot play any live shows again. However, he says it’s still possible if he could teach his guitar parts to another musician.
