Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine admitted that he was once the toxic member of the band, but ‘not anymore.’

In a new interview with Carmen Coronado of Monterrey Rock, Mustaine revealed his favorite albums, his experience in the 40 years of his career, and more. During the discussion, the rocker mentioned the toxicity in the band and recalled being one of the toxic members of the band at the beginning. He said:

“There’s a lot of people that stick together that end up [with] somebody’s up dying. Unfortunately, we had some of that toxicity in Megadeth in the beginning and a lot of bands do. They have one guy that’s a bit too far over the edge and causes bad behavior to other people. I was that guy one time, but not anymore.”

How The ‘Toxicity’ Affected Megadeth

The so-called toxicity might have affected the former bassist David Ellefson since he thinks he was fired due to ‘personal grudges and resentments.’ The relationship between Mustaine and Ellefson has been rocky since 2002. Following Megadeth’s breakup due to Mustaine’s wrist injury, the bassist engaged in a lawsuit against Mustaine, leading to a significant rift between them. With the sex scandals added to the list of feuds, Mustaine decided to fire him. According to the former bassist, the two parties have never spoken to each other since his split from the band.
