Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl continues to celebrate Hanukkah this year with his Hanukkah Sessions by covering songs from Jewish artists. This time, Grohl covered a Rush song with Jack Black. According to Foo Fighters’ recent tweet, Grohl sang the song in tribute to Geddy Lee’s late mother.

“Geddy Lee’s mom was so proud of her son that she put Rush posters up all over the family store,” the tweet read. “And gave away albums to kids who didn’t have money. In tribute to that proud Jewish mom — free of charge — ‘The Spirit Of Radio’ feat. Jack Black.”

Dave Grohl has collaborated with his fellow producer Greg Kurstin for Hanukkah Sessions since 2020. Their first celebration of the holiday consisted of shows featuring eight covers from Jewish artists each night. Seeing that fans enjoyed the shows, Grohl continued the tradition for the following years.

Last year, Geddy Lee was the guest of Dave Grohl and his mother, Virginia Hanlon’s ‘From Cradle to Stage’ show with his late mother, Mary Weinrib. Lee had a difficult childhood growing up as the son of parents who were Holocaust survivors. During the show, Lee, Grohl, and their mothers talked about Lee’s tragic background.

Dave Grohl’s mother, Virginia Grohl, also wrote a book about the stories of the mothers of famous rock stars, including Geddy Lee’s mother. Titled ‘From Cradle to Stage,’ the book featured Lee’s story told by his mother and was later adapted to a docu-series. Sadly, Lee’s mother, Mary, died on July 2, 2021, at 95.
