David Crosby, a prolific singer, songwriter, guitarist, and founding member of CSNY and the Byrds passed away on January 18. The veteran folk-rock icon was 81 years old and had no plans to retire soon. Crosby was known to battle with illnesses, but his cause of death is yet announced.
“It is with great sadness, after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away,” Crosby’s wife, Jan Dance, told Variety. “He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us.”
The statement continued, “His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
Crosby was known for his music but also his frequent use of social media. He always enjoyed sharing his thoughts about various subjects and interacting with his fans. Sadly, on January 18, his fans weren’t aware that Crosby would depart from this world. Ironically, one of the singer’s final tweets was about going to heaven — he had jokingly said that he heard heaven was overrated and cloudy.
Although David Crosby was eager to make new releases, he had concerns about performing live. In one of his previous statements, he had admitted he couldn’t play well enough due to tendonitis in both hands. However, Crosby still hinted he might do a residency in the future. Before his unexpected passing, the singer was already working on another album as a follow-up to ‘For Free.’
