Corey Taylor On Stone Sour’s Hiatus, ‘I Can’t Compromise Anymore’

4 Min Read

In a recent interview with AndrewHaugRadio via YouTube, Corey Taylor spoke about the current state of Stone Sour and described it as an indefinite hiatus. Taylor explained the internal dynamics that led to this decision, citing irreconcilable differences with some band members as a key factor. Taylor said:

“It’s what we call an indefinite hiatus. I talk to T about this all the time. It’s one of those things where you just don’t see it coming back anytime soon. There are just kind of irreconcilable differences with certain people, you know, the F, and a lot of things that obviously I don’t want to, I’m not going to run anybody down or anything.”

Taylor said that he does not want to make any more compromises in his career. Taylor also stressed the importance of full commitment to his art. He continued:

“But it’s just one of those things that, for me, I can’t compromise anymore for different reasons. Like, if I’m going to do music, I want to do it full tilt, you know. So, it’s, to me, it’s the best thing for me to be able to do this, and you know, Stone Sour is what I did, and I’m proud of it. I’m proud of what we did.”

Corey Doesn’t Think Stone Sour Has ‘The Same Impact’ As Slipknot

Corey Taylor, who has been on stage with both bands periodically since the 90s, is aware that Stone Sour has not had the same impact as Slipknot.  Taylor dismissed any notion of a creative rivalry between the two groups. When asked if he ever wanted Stone Sour to surpass Slipknot in terms of success, he answered with a definitive ‘No.’ Speaking to Metal Hammer in September, the rock star said:

“I knew we would never have the same impact. You have one chance at grabbing lightning, and Slipknot was that chance. When I was young, maybe I wanted to have more credit (for Slipknot) from an ego standpoint. It’s only in retrospect that you can look at it and go, ‘I was actually a very big part of it.’”

Taylor reflected a realistic understanding of the different legacies of his bands. When asked about the future of Stone Sour though, he spoke clearly:

“I’m in no hurry to do it again, let’s put it that way. Why? The reasons are nobody’s business.”

In Stone Sour There Are Certain Artistic ‘Hindrances’ For Corey

These days, Corey is more focused on his solo project. But when he talks about Stone Sour, he hints at a problem, even though he uses the word hiatus a lot. This time he used the word ‘hindrance.’

He said that he would not make any more artistic compromises because of the ‘hindrances’ of some members of Stone Sour. Taylor, who also stated that his relations with the members of the band were fine, told Rock Antenne in July:

“It’s not that I don’t miss some of the guys in Stone Sour – I still talk to them. But at this stage, I refuse to compromise my vision and my art because of certain people’s hindrances. And that’s all I’ll say.”
