Chris Jericho recently appeared on a new episode of the ‘Insight’ podcast, where he talked about his wrestling career, comparing himself to David Bowie. The Fozzy frontman said:
“Not that I’m even close, but I always kind of look for inspiration in David Bowie. It’s like I’m the David Bowie of wrestling … Because Bowie always changed his look, his gimmick, his sound, his presentation. But the essence was still always Bowie.”
Referring to Bowie’s different musical eras, he went on:
“You never knew what you were going to get from him. You could say, ‘F**k. I love the ‘Let’s Dance’ era of Bowie. Why’s he not playing any of this, and he’s forming a rock band called Tin Machine and playing a guitar? Why would you do that?’ It’s like, ‘F**k, who else would do that? That’s completely ignoring your biggest record and starting a band.'”
The Wrestler’s Love For Bowie

Jericho has worked with AEW since its start and became its first World Champion in 2019. Being also a former WWE & ROH World Champion, he often shared his love and the inspiration he took from Bowie on different platforms.
Back in April, the artist got a tattoo inspired by Bowie’s ‘Aladdin Sane’ era as a personal tribute to the late singer.
Bowie’s Influence On Jericho

In a radio broadcast last year, Jericho also picked the late singer as his favorite figure in the rock scene, comparing his impact to that of The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. He explained:
“I am here today to talk about my personal rock god. I’m going to go with David Bowie and the reason I’ve been going through a big Bowie phase recently because anybody knows my wrestling career after 32 years is that I constantly evolve and change, and that comes directly from Bowie.”
Saying he especially enjoyed watching the ‘Glass Spider Tour,’ the singer/wrestler added:
“It’s right when he was probably at his peak commercially, and he plays barely any of his hits. If you look at the setlist, you’re like, ‘What is he doing?’ I appreciate all of the different angles of who he was. People talk about the Stones, and you talk about the Beatles and McCartney; you talk about Elton John. I think David Bowie is up there with all of those guys as one of the top artists of all time.”
