Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers revealed his calculations about Gene Simmons’ bass guitar sales in an interview with 101 WRIF.

“I did the math the other day on just the basses he sold on the final tour, not KISS touring money or merch money, which was probably millions,” Myers said. “Just the stage-played basses alone, which he sells between $13,000 and $8,000, I averaged it in the middle at $10,000.”

“He does two a night, and I think he made between 5 and 7 million dollars just selling basses,” he continued. “That is insane.”

Myers addressed a question about paying Gene Simmons $12,000 to work as his roadie. “No, I wouldn’t, but I respect the hustle so much,” he responded. “Everyone’s bashing him about it, but I’m like, ‘Dude do it.’ That guy was so nice to us when we toured with them, the whole band.”

These impressive sales figures demonstrate Simmons’ broader merchandising strategy during KISS’s farewell tour.

Data from Gene Simmons’ official website shows the rock legend’s exclusive fan experiences include stage-played bass purchases starting at $12,500. Each package features personal time with Simmons, autographed items, and backstage access.

The KISS bassist has expanded beyond tour sales. Loudwire reported Simmons’ previous partnership with Gibson for signature bass models. The collaboration included the Gibson Gene Simmons G2 Thunderbird Bass. This venture led to more Gibson and Epiphone products.

Discussions on TalkBass forums highlight how stage-played instrument sales have become a major revenue source for Simmons. This income stream adds to his earnings from touring and merchandise.

The business model proved especially successful during KISS’s final tour. It showcases Simmons’ skill in creating additional revenue beyond traditional concert earnings.
