Draven Bennington, the child of late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, has shared a deeply personal account of her journey coming out as transgender. She detailed years of internal struggle and the life-changing decision to begin hormone replacement therapy. The emotional revelation was shared on TikTok.

In the candid statement, Draven opened up about experiencing gender dysphoria from an early age. She also discussed the challenges of growing up in an environment where such feelings couldn’t be openly discussed.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve had these feelings. I used to lie awake at night wishing that in the morning I would wake up as a girl,” Draven said. “Back when I was little, though this wasn’t even a topic of conversation, I just thought I was different. I just knew that these feelings had to be wrong and that I couldn’t share them with anyone.”

Draven described the pressure to conform to traditional masculine expectations. She explained how this affected her mental health throughout her youth.

“For whatever reason, I had so much inner toxic masculinity instilled in me that when I broke my collarbone in 2nd grade, I didn’t even cry. So there was a lot of pressure to be a ‘man,'” they continued. “I didn’t know that trans people existed until middle school. By then, I was hanging out with teenage boys, and you can imagine the things I’ve heard people say over the years.”

The statement revealed years of denial and attempts to suppress their true identity. This led to significant mental health struggles.

“When I did finally figure it out, I denied it. Shoved it down by saying ‘there’s no chance I could be trans, that can’t be me’,” Draven explained. “The first person I came out to was my cousin, and I was 14 years old. Immediately, I took it back, saying I was just joking around. I then pretended to be a boy for 8 more years, growing out my beard and trying to present as masculine as possible.”

Draven described how this internal conflict severely impacted her mental health and well-being.

“For the longest time, it made me the most depressed and anxious person. I would also just get so frustrated and angry to the point it was unhealthy,” they said. “I hated myself and anything that involved me. It got so bad at times that I would self-harm to dull the pain. Physical pain was easier to focus on than emotional.”

The turning point came when Draven made the decision to begin hormone replacement therapy. This marked a significant step in their transition journey.

“I couldn’t take it anymore and had to make a change. I took the risk of losing all of my friends and family and career, but I still decided to make an appointment and go alone,” Draven shared. “On August 15th, 2024, I took my first dose of HRT, and I swear it saved my life. Over the first month, I started to notice changes and slowly realized I couldn’t hide it anymore.”

Draven concluded her statement by expressing hope that sharing her story could help others facing similar struggles. She emphasized the importance of self-acceptance and authenticity.

“As I grow older, I realize that I shouldn’t be scared of this platform I have, but embrace it so I can help others. If my story makes one other person feel less alone, then I did my job,” they said. “Love is Love, be yourself and shine brightly.”

Since beginning her transition, Draven has continued to document her journey on social media. She provides visibility and representation for transgender youth facing similar challenges.

TikTok reported that the 22-year-old has been openly sharing updates about the physical changes she is experiencing during her transition. Draven has posted content about various aspects of hormone replacement therapy, including hairline changes linked to their treatment. This offers an authentic glimpse into the transgender experience.

The public nature of Draven’s coming-out story has resonated widely within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. Her willingness to share such personal details about her transition journey has provided much-needed representation for transgender individuals, particularly those from high-profile families who may face additional scrutiny.
