On 28 and 29 September 2015, ESO’s Paranal Observatory welcomed a very special visitor — British rock guitarist, singer, songwriter and astrophysicist, Brian May. Famed for being the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band Queen — May also has a passion for astronomy. This picture shows Brian May in one of the domes of the ESO Very Large Telescope.

Queen lead guitarist Brian May shared a post on his official Instagram page revealing an interesting looking rock from Mars humorously stating that it may be ‘an ancient Martian Easter Egg’ and apparently, it’s discovered by the Mars Rover Perseverance team and pieces from the rock were taken to investigate its elemental composition.

As many of you know, besides being one of the most successful rock stars in the world with a career that spans over more than five decades, Brian May is also an astrophysicist as he studied physics and mathematics at Imperial College London, and has been contributing to the science world throughout his whole life.

Due to the fact that he has a huge interest in astrophysics, Queen guitarist constantly gives an update on the recent signs of progress through his social media accounts, revealing numerous stereo images from Mars which is extremely exciting for his fans since May shares every detail about the project and the picture.

Recently, Brian May shared a post on his official Instagram page revealing a number of pictures in which there is a huge rock with numerous holes on it. May made a joke asking his fans if it’s ‘an ancient Martian Easter Egg,‘ since it actually has perfectly shaped holes, however, the truth is quite different than the science-fiction theory.

Apparently, the Mars Rover Perseverance team has found a rock on Mars and named it ‘The Hedgehog.‘ The Hedgehog was drilled by Perseverance’s SuperCam laser instrument in order to have samples to explore its elemental composition, so far, the team thinks it may a meteorite.

Here is what May said:

An ancient Martian Easter Egg? No! It’s what the Mars Rover Perseverance team has christened ‘The Hedgehog!’ But swipe and swipe! Who drilled this perfectly horizontal line of perfectly spaced holes? The best evidence yet of intelligent life on ancient Mars? All these raw pictures are on the Perseverance site – link in my Slink!
HAPPY EASTER !! Bri.

💥💥💥💥 OK – sorry if this slightly disappointing news for alien hunters, but it turns out that’s a row of laser marks where Perseverance’s SuperCam laser instrument on the robotic arm zapped the rock to investigate its elemental composition It’s also been mooted that this unusual rock might be a meteorite. Never a dull moment !!! Bri”
