Bam Margera has shared details about his late friend Brent Hinds’ final musical projects, revealing that the guitarist was actively working on new music before his passing. Margera made the announcement in a heartfelt statement posted on Instagram.
The statement reflected on their friendship and recent collaborative work together.
“I am devastated and still processing the tragic loss of one of my closest friends Brent Hinds,” Margera said. “Around the time Ryan Dunn died, I met Brent on the Soundwave Festival in Australia and said to him in a joking way ‘you look and act like Ryan Dunn and we should just be best friends’ and he said ‘ok’ and just like that we were.”
Margera went on to detail their recent musical collaboration.
“Brent and I recently had been recording tracks on a new album with a new band I have been doing vocals with called Amore Ad Lunam,” he continued. “It has been a privilege and honor working with Brent. I cherish the time we spent together working on guitar tracks and vocals that we just very recently laid down together.”
The statement concluded with mention of a tribute being prepared by friends.
“My friends Stevaughn Decay and Eman have gathered some clips and pics for a special slideshow ending with Brent breaking my arm with a golf club by accident,” Margera added. “R.I.P brother.”
Hinds’ death marks the end of a remarkable career that helped define modern heavy metal music through his work with one of the genre’s most influential bands.
AXS TV reported that Brent Hinds was best known as the lead guitarist and co-founder of the band Mastodon. Born in Helena, Alabama, in 1974, he played a key role in shaping modern heavy metal through Mastodon’s eight studio albums over their 25-year career.
Earlier this year in March 2025, Wikipedia documented that Mastodon announced a mutual parting with Hinds after 25 years. This marked the end of an era in his career as the band continued to evolve their sound and explore new creative directions.
Outside Mastodon, Brooklyn Vegan noted that Hinds pursued several side projects like Fiend Without a Face and West End Motel. These projects showcased his unique musical style and experimentation, demonstrating his versatility as a musician beyond the heavy metal genre.
AXS TV confirmed that Hinds tragically died on August 20, 2025, in a motorcycle collision in Atlanta when a BMW SUV driver failed to yield at an intersection. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. Fans and fellow musicians continue to celebrate his profound impact on music and his creative legacy.
