The Go-Go’s former lead vocalist Belinda Carlisle recently sat down with Q’s Tom Power for a conversation and disclosed that she had initially wanted to play bass rather than sing during the forming process of the band.

When the host said that she was the singer because no one else wanted to do it, the rocker replied:

“No one else wanted to sing. I wanted to play bass, but Margot had taken bass. So while we were sitting and forming the band on a curb at a party in California, everybody we knew was in a band, all the kids. They were horrible, and that would make being in a band horrible, too.

It is poor to be horrible. I wanted to play bass, and Margot took the bass, so it was either the drums again. So, I didn’t want to do that. I said, ‘Okay, I will sing.’ That’s how it started.”

The singer’s latest release ‘Kismet’ arrived on May 12. As she recently revealed to AXS TV, the chance of working with Diane Warren led her to create this album rather than retire. She is preparing to support her record with a forthcoming tour.
