Behemoth frontman Nergal has shared details about his recent legal victory on Instagram.

“In 2018, on this very day, I posted a silly video on Instagram, singing an old children’s song for Women’s Day while waving a certain artifact,” Nergal explained. “Hardly high comedy, but was it blasphemous or shocking? I didn’t think so. It was enough for a few clowns on the other side to take offense and run straight to court.”

“A certain conservative MEP loudly vowed I’d end up in prison,” he continued. “The ever-litigious Ordo Iuris joined the choir of the outraged. After years in court and tens of thousands zlotis spent on legal defense, I was fully acquitted just days ago.”

“The verdict is a bittersweet victory tho,” Nergal stated. “I’m glad justice prevailed. I’m glad I put my opponents in their place. Yet I still consider it absurd that a mediocre joke in this country can spiral into a costly, nerve-wracking legal battle.”

The musician clarified the nature of the disputed item. The artifact was a sculpture created by Black Metal artist Tom Gabriel Fischer, given to him as a personal gift. His legal team is now working to secure its return.

This recent victory marks another chapter in Nergal’s ongoing legal battles over artistic expression and religious freedom in Poland.

MetalSucks reveals that the controversial item was a penis crucifix sculpture. The possession of this item led to charges of offending religious feelings under Polish law.

Consequence documents Nergal’s history of legal challenges over religious expression. A notable incident occurred in 2007. He faced accusations for ripping up a Bible during a stage performance.

Nuclear Blast highlights another significant case. Nergal previously faced charges of desecrating the Polish national emblem on Behemoth merchandise. The court ruled in his favor. They determined the design was an artistic creation rather than an intentional insult to national symbols.

These legal confrontations underscore an ongoing tension in Poland’s legal system. The conflict between artistic expression and religious sensitivities continues. Nergal remains a central figure in these controversies.
