Adam ‘Nergal‘ Darski is reportedly facing charges for ‘offending religious feelings’ in his home country, Poland. If found guilty, he might face jail time for two years.

It might be safe to say that the Polish courts and Nergal are no strangers, as the singer also got into other legal troubles in the past, from tearing up a Bible on stage to mocking the Polish army publicly. This time, he faces charges of offending religious beliefs for sharing a picture of himself stomping on the Virgin Mary four years ago.

It all started when the conservatives of Poland filed a lawsuit against Nergal for offensive behavior, and the initial court fined the singer $4,200. Behemoth frontman, however, demanded an appeal, and the court reversed its decision, granting the rocker his wish. Things didn’t end there, though, as ultra-conservative Ordo Iuris seemed determined to ensure that Darski spent some time behind bars.

Iuris challenged the ruling, leading the court to retake place, and the next hearing was reportedly set only a few months away. Nergal’s attendance will be necessary to defend his actions for offending religious communities; however, the singer and his legal team are getting ready to make a stance pointing out the notion of freedom of expression.

This case has been going on for four years, and Behemoth’s frontman might face two years in prison if the court rules against him. However, there had been other cases where artists faced charges for ‘offensive behavior’ and were appealed due to the right to freedom of expression, so the court might also take those cases as exemplifies and rule in favor of Nergal.
