Arctic Monkeys Producer Shares Alex Turner’s Technique To Ensure Originality

Many things have been said about Arctic Monkeys’ music since its emergence in the music industry in 2002. While some may agree with their melodic and lyrical choices, others find the band a bit repetitive, and that raises the question, ‘Do Arctic Monkeys make good quality music?’ According to the chart numbers, their fame, fortune, and number of fans, they do, and their producer James Ford confirms that Alex Turner works very hard to ensure it.

Since the success of their album ‘AM,’ Arctic Monkeys have released two more albums in the hope of reaching the same level of success as ‘AM’ once again. However, they tried a new sound with ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino,’ which received a fair amount of criticism, especially accusing Alex Turner of trying to sound like his other band, The Last Shadow Puppets, in Arctic Monkeys as well. However, the album mostly received favorable reviews, which gave motivation to the band to continue creating.

In 2020, the band released ‘The Car,’ which included more different sounds than the original Arctic Monkeys style and The Last Shadow Puppets’ style. The album was praised by critics for being an amazing example of teamwork and great songwriting. When you listen to the album, you can hear all sorts of instruments fusing together to form beautiful melodies that fuse with Alex’s poetic songwriting skills.

Recently, the band’s producer, James Ford, confirmed that Alex Turner works very hard to ensure the quality of his music. Even though he has been accused of creating the same things over and over again, he records four or five different versions of each song and then chooses the best one out of them. This technique requires a lot of dedication and patience.

Here are Ford’s words:

“Alex is getting very into recording stuff himself. I seem to remember the writing process for ‘The Car’ was quite long [because] he went to and fro with a few different directions. He’d do four or five different versions of the same song with different tempos, and he’d play some of them to me, and I’d be like, ‘Oh, that one’s sounding great.'”

According to Ford, Alex is succeeding in the producing game as well and loves to record himself and make decisions accordingly. The band hardly disappoints their fans, and it wouldn’t be fair to say that they sound the same on every album. If you listen to ‘AM,’ ‘Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino,’ and ‘The Car,’ you will see how Alex’s quality checks ensure a great music experience.
