Mike Portnoy Explains Why Peter Criss Doesn’t Get The Credit He Deserved
Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy talked about the differences between KISS’ Peter Criss and The Beatles’ Ringo Starr during a recent appearance on Another FN Podcast With Izzy Presley.
In the conversation, Mike wanted to explain why Ringo Starr has been receiving more credits compared to the legendary drummer of KISS and praised both of their talent while doing so.
Portnoy stated that Ringo is such a great drummer and one of the best influential drummers of all time in addition to the success of The Beatles. Because of that, he is acknowledged as Ringo.
Due to the fact that Ringo made a name for himself, Peter Criss is pretty underrated drummer to the community, even though most of the greatest drummers gave credit Peter Criss all the time.
Here is what Mike Portnoy said about Peter Criss:
“Underrated, you’d have to say Peter, because Ringo, as much as people give him shit for not being a great technical drummer, which I don’t believe in, by the way — I totally don’t agree with that — but Ringo is still at least acknowledged as Ringo, one of the most influential drummers of all time, whereas I don’t think Peter gets that credit.
I know I always cite him as an influence, Charlie will cite him, Roy, Brian Tichy — there’s a lot of us that love Peter and grew up on him and give him that credit, but I think generally, he’s very, very underrated.”
