Following her recent foray into rock music, Dolly Parton has now made a surprising and successful entrance into the rap genre, with her collaboration with Pitbull, ‘Powerful Women,’ making waves on the charts.

Parton teamed up with Pitbull for the single ‘Powerful Women,’ which debuted at Number 4 on Billboard’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart. The song, a tribute to influential women in Parton’s life and career, including her late mother, Avie Lee Owens, Jane Fonda, and Lilly Tomlin, samples her iconic ‘9 to 5’ and marks her first venture into rap music.

From Country Roots To Rock Dreams

In October 2023, Dolly shared insights into her musical journey on CBS Mornings, discussing her new book, ‘Behind The Seams,’ and her anticipation for the release of her first-ever rock album, ‘Rockstar.’ Despite her deep-seated roots in country music, Parton revealed her lifelong affection for rock music, spurred by her husband’s fandom, saying:

“I’m a rock star. [Laughs] I laugh out loud at that, too, just like I do at being a fashion icon. I always loved it, but I’m from the country, and country music was my livelihood. But my husband is a huge rock and roll fan, and I used to think that I would do a rock album someday, and then the time went on. I started getting older, and I thought that’d be a joke now, and then I thought, ‘Well, timing’s everything.’ So, I decided I’m going to do that rock and roll album.”

The album featured collaborations with notable rockers like Paul McCartney, Elton John, Nikki Sixx, Steve Perry, and Stevie Nicks. Despite her successful explorations of rock and rap, Parton humorously dismissed the idea of venturing into metal music during a conversation with SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk. Recalling a discussion with Rob Halford, she reflected on their collaboration for her rock album and the unlikely prospect of her delving into metal.
