Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser recently confirmed that the band extended an invitation to Max and Iggor Cavalera to perform at their final show. He revealed that the Cavalera brothers declined the offer, as reported by Louder Sound.
Kisser discussed the communication attempts between the band and the former members. He explained the reasoning behind the invitation.
“We did invite the Cavalera brothers. I spoke to Iggor personally on a phone call a few months ago and we started some communication. Even our managers went to talk to their management and stuff. But, they don’t want to be a part of it, and that’s OK. It’s a choice,” Kisser said.
The guitarist elaborated on what such a reunion could have meant for the band’s farewell.
“It would make sense to have a celebration at the end, for the fans, and just to enjoy ourselves onstage. [It could be] like it was on [1996 album and Max’s final Sepultura recording] Roots, you know? Despite all the fucking crazy stuff around it, we managed to make that album and finish what we had to do, you know?” he continued.
The rejection comes as Sepultura prepares for their extensive farewell tour across multiple continents before their final dissolution.
Ticketmaster confirmed that the band’s “Celebrating Life Through Death” final North American tour includes a stop at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on May 29, 2026. The farewell tour represents the end of an era for one of Brazil’s most influential metal bands.
Chaoszine noted that Sepultura will perform a special set at Brazil’s Rock in Rio festival, marking one of their final major festival appearances. The performance is expected to be particularly significant given the band’s Brazilian roots and the festival’s importance in the country’s music scene.
The band’s final show is planned for São Paulo, though the exact date remains undisclosed. Louder Sound indicated that Kisser noted that while the details are still being arranged, the final performance will be memorable for fans.
The Cavalera brothers’ decision means Sepultura’s final show will proceed without the founding members who departed the band years ago. This leaves the current lineup to close this chapter of metal history on their own terms.
