Graham Bonnet shared his thoughts about former Alcatrazz guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen on The Jersey Guys Podcast.
“We had a great guitar player, no freaking doubt,” Bonnet said. “Who went on to better things, which I knew he would.”
“He didn’t want to stick around the guys that were in the band [Alcatrazz] at the time. Neither did I that much,” he continued. “So, Yngwie [Malmsteen] became what he deserved. He’s still out on the road now. He did a great job on that album with us.”
Their collaboration in Alcatrazz made a lasting impact on rock history. The statement highlights their time together on the band’s debut album.
Their debut release ‘No Parole from Rock ‘n’ Roll’ made its mark in 1983. Data from Billboard charts showed the album reaching No. 128 on the Billboard 200.
The musical partnership ended dramatically in 1984. Blabbermouth documented a physical altercation where Malmsteen reportedly attempted to strangle Bonnet during a heated conflict.
Both musicians found success after their split. Malmsteen established himself as a pioneering neoclassical metal guitarist. Bonnet pursued various musical projects.
Their collaborative album stands as a testament to their combined talents. It showcases Bonnet’s powerful vocals alongside Malmsteen’s innovative guitar work, despite their eventual personal conflicts.
