Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee recently discussed her collaboration with Poppy and Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante. She explained what she admires most about both female rock singers in an interview with Louder Sound.

Lee praised both artists for their fearless approach to embracing femininity within heavy music. She emphasized the importance of women in rock supporting each other.

“Courtney and Poppy are both amazing and very different from each other,” Lee said. “One thing I love about them both is how fearlessly they embrace their femininity within such heavy music. It’s beautifully rebellious.”

The Evanescence vocalist highlighted the close-knit nature of the rock community, particularly among female artists.

“The rock community is fairly close. And especially, I would say, the women [in] the rock community, most of us know each other,” she continued. “I think it’s important that we lift each other up; the more of us there are, the more of us there will be, you know?”

Lee shared her personal experiences working with both artists. She described her time with LaPlante during a recent Spiritbox show.

“So yeah, I love Courtney. She’s amazing. I got to see inside her world more, hung out with her at her show when [Spiritbox] were here recently, and we had a blast working together,” she said. “And Poppy’s great too. I’ve gotten to know her more through this process. She’s awesome; she kind of plays a character when she’s ‘on’, but she’s a very cool person in real life.”

“Their music is amazing. I think that’s what this all boils down to: somebody that makes great music that inspires you, period,” she concluded. “And then being able to step into that place and go, ‘Hey, I think you’re rad, do you want to try to do something together and see how that works?’ I’m a fan of both of them, as artists, their music. I mean, we all have different styles and different outfits and blah, blah, blah, but we’re here for the music. I’m attracted to great music makers.”

Lee’s comments come following the successful release of their collaborative effort. The project has garnered significant attention in the metal community and showcased the power of female artists working together in the genre.

Knotfest reported that the three artists joined forces for the collaborative single “End of You.” The track was released on September 4, 2025, via Sumerian Records. The track features a music video directed by Jensen Noen, depicting a dystopian fantasy theme of overcoming a faceless antagonist.

The creative process behind the collaboration was particularly unique. Melodic Magazine noted that the track originated from Poppy and producer Jordan Fish envisioning a “dark Moulin Rouge” style similar to “Lady Marmalade.” Fish, who had previously worked on Poppy’s album “Negative Spaces” and Lee’s “Hand That Feeds,” suggested including LaPlante in the project.

The song blends the distinctive styles of all three artists. It features Lee’s spellbinding vocals, Poppy’s intense delivery, and LaPlante’s bold false cord screams. The collaboration also involved Spiritbox’s guitarist, who is LaPlante’s husband, along with Poppy’s drummer and bassist, creating a truly collaborative musical effort.

Vice revealed that the song’s core lyric “The end of you is the start of life for me” explores themes of strength, unity, women empowerment, and challenging the patriarchy. Lee praised the “Powerpuff Girls”-like trio dynamic in a Metal Hammer interview, noting the joy of women in rock “lifting each other up.” She confirmed that no live performances are planned soon despite Poppy opening for Evanescence on select shows.
