Alter Bridge has released their first self-titled album after more than two decades as a band. Frontman Myles Kennedy recently explained the reasoning behind this decision in an interview with MyGlobalMind.

The vocalist addressed why the band chose to wait until now to release a self-titled effort. He shared insights about their creative process and the album’s essence.

When asked why it took Alter Bridge more than 20 years to release a self-titled effort, Kennedy provided a candid explanation about the band’s approach.

“Well, we just felt laziness, as far as trying to come up with a fancy name,” Kennedy said. “But I think the other part of it was it just felt like we really touched on the kind of the essence of what this band has always been, a certain thing.”

Kennedy elaborated on how this album represents the core identity of Alter Bridge without venturing into new experimental territories.

“And we didn’t really veer off into too many new territories, like arrangement-wise or texture-wise; there’s no keyboards or anything like that, like we’ve experimented on other records,” he continued. “And it was just, like, ‘Well, this is kind of the essence of the band.’ So we all felt like a self-titled approach was appropriate.”

This milestone release marks a significant moment in the band’s career. It represents both their artistic evolution and commercial success over the years.

Wikipedia reported that Alter Bridge has sold over 5 million records worldwide as of 2023. This establishes them as a major force in the hard rock scene. The self-titled album represents their eighth studio effort, scheduled for release on January 9, 2026, via Napalm Records.

The recording process for this album took place over two months in spring 2025. The band worked at two legendary locations. Live Metal noted that the sessions were split between the famous 5150 studio in California and producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette’s Florida studio. This ensured the band captured their signature sound.

The album’s release strategy includes the recent single “Playing Aces.” The track has been generating buzz among fans ahead of the full album launch. The Photo Pit confirmed that pre-orders for the self-titled album are now available. The band is preparing to support the release with upcoming tour dates.

This self-titled approach reflects the band’s confidence in their established identity after more than two decades of creating music together. The decision to strip away elaborate album titles and focus on their core sound demonstrates Alter Bridge’s maturity as artists. They understand exactly what they represent in the rock music landscape.
