When you look across the board, Wolf Van Halen is surely a musician who can already compete with some of the best on the rock scene. You might also understand why he is one to nitpick the qualities he believes a good guitar player should possess, especially since he’s the son of the legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen. Wolfgang recently shared with Guitar World his favorite player, which some of you might have seen coming, while for others, it might be the news of the century.
“Aaron Marshall is my favorite guitar player of today,” Wolfgang revealed, targeting the Intervals guitarist as a player to keep an eye on. “An important thing my dad always said; when it comes to soloing, you should be able to hum the solo.”
He continued to praise the guitarist for his abilities with the guitar, saying, “On top of Aaron’s ridiculous chops, he manages to work in the catchiest melodies. His melodic sensibility is one of my favorite things about his playing.”
However, Wolfgang didn’t just stop there; he also pointed out Marshall’s impact on his guitar playing after the Intervals’ ‘Circadian’ album became one of his favorite records. “He is one of my favorite guitar players,” Van Halen emphasized. “On top of that, he’s a wonderful and very kind man. I have become a better guitar player because I’ve tried to learn all the songs on that album.”
“He has such a wonderful melodic sensibility that is so different from people in his genre of the heavier, progressive, metal-y rock sort of thing,” Wolfgang continued. “It separates him from everyone else. I can’t speak enough of how wonderful a guitar player and songwriter he is.”
It seems like being inspired and excited by other guitarists is also common for an established player like Wolfgang. If you want to give the Intervals’ ‘Circadian’ album a listen, maybe, just maybe, you might also understand what Van Halen couldn’t stop gushing over.
