Will Ramos recently discussed Lorna Shore’s creative approach and musical vision. He shared insights about their songwriting process in an interview with Kerrang!.

The vocalist explained how the band uses collaborative brainstorming and visual inspiration to develop their songs. He particularly referenced their track “War Machine.”

“Someone would have said the vibe is ‘angry.’ Someone might then say ‘gun’, then ‘boom’, then ‘explosion’, and eventually we’d get to War Machine,” Ramos said. “We’d write all these ideas down on a big moodboard on the wall with words and pictures to encapsulate each song idea, then we’d all go into our corners and fucking hash it out.”

He further detailed their collaborative process and how they present ideas to each other.

“Adam would have his guitar, as musically we’d have to start somewhere, and we’d present to ‘the class’ at the end of the day, and give notes on each other’s stuff,” he continued.

Ramos also drew comparisons to French metal band Gojira when discussing their musical diversity.

“It allows us to change things up, in the same way that, say, Gojira will have a fucking heavy song one moment and an ambient one the next. I want that. I don’t think things have to be super-dark all the time. That’s not who we are as people,” he explained. “I think this is the most human version of anything we’ve ever put out. It’s all based on real stories and feelings that we’ve all experienced, individually or together, which we’ve never done before.”

This creative philosophy is evident throughout Lorna Shore’s latest work. The album showcases the band’s evolution beyond traditional deathcore boundaries.

Ethereal Metal Zine reported that the album I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me features songs like “War Machine.” The track begins with a menacing riff reminiscent of a video game intro before exploding into intense sonic force with crashing guitars and pounding drums. This demonstrates the band’s ability to deliver tightly focused, cinematic bursts of aggression that align with Ramos’ vision of creating diverse musical experiences.

The band’s incorporation of orchestral elements further supports their goal of musical variety. Primordial Radio noted that Lorna Shore incorporates symphonic elements in tracks such as “Oblivion.” The band blends foreboding atmospheres with triumphant melodies that elevate their deathcore foundation. This approach allows the band to create the dynamic range that Ramos admires in Gojira’s work.

Primordial Radio highlighted how the track “Unbreakable” showcases the band’s ability to merge orchestral arrangements with their heavy sound. These symphonic elements provide the ambient moments that contrast with their heavier material. They create the emotional depth that Ramos describes as “the most human version of anything we’ve ever put out.”

The band’s commitment to authenticity and emotional storytelling represents a significant shift in their approach. By drawing from real experiences and collaborative creativity, Lorna Shore has developed a sound that balances aggression with vulnerability. This demonstrates how their Gojira-inspired vision translates into practice across their latest work.
